NYC Launches a Better Map App
New York launched a new map mobile app for tourists. It incorporates social media updates, OpenTable booking capabilities and daily deals. Store owners can also claim their spot and advertise. Right now it is free to advertise on the app, but that might change in the future.
It is great that cities are introducing a more easy to understand maps for tourists. Especially for a city like New York. Many tourists don’t know where to go, where to stay and where to shop. This app will help with that.
Even for businesses this is great. Many tourists will not know of local boutiques and local coffee shops (and good ones at that) and probably will never know them unless a local tells them about it. With this app they will be able to support local companies and find unique boutiques.
If you are traveling to New York City, will you find this to be a useful app?
Ditch Those Paper Business Cards
Business cards are vital to have if you have a business but when you collect hundreds from other businesses it can be quite annoying when it comes to entering all those contacts into your phone or computer. That is where CardMunch comes in. CardMunch lets you capture business card information and it instantly creates a contact for you. You can also link your LinkedIn and Facebook accounts with CardMunch so that person can follow you when you capture that business card picture.
Does this mean the end of business card? I don’t think it will entirely get rid of business cards. It is good to have them to promote your business and not everyone will want to store your information in their phone. However, for those who don’t want to have the hassle of carrying around a bunch of business cards, CardMunch is perfect.
The only downside is that is only available on the iPhone. So if you don’t have an iPhone you can use this app. Hopefully in the future they add an Android app.

Poshmark: Sell and Buy Clothing From Your iPhone
Poshmark is a new app where you can purchase and sell pre-owned apparel and accessories on your iPhone. You can shop and sell items or you can host pre-scheduled shopping events called Posh Parties. This means that the app will bring together a number of items in a single category or theme such as coats or holiday. To list an item all you need to do is snap a photo with your iPhone and then add a category and pricing.
What is even more nice is that there is no listing fee. But Poshmark will take a 20% cut that includes the cost of shipping and customer support. You can bring up any defaults with the clothing. However, you can not return any of the clothing.
The only downsides of the app is that you can not return clothing, the site takes 20% profit from sales, and there is no filtering options. That means that you need to be careful on what you buy. Be sure that you will be able to fit into that article of clothing. Don’t impulse buy! No filtering options means that you can’t browse by category but you can browse in Posh Parties. Which might be a little better. You can shop by theme. Be inspired on what to wear for that holiday party or that picnic in the spring. It might come in handy!
Currently the app is only available on the iPhone.

Stamped: Simplify Ratings
Stamped is a new app for the iPhone where you can rate restaurants, books, movies, and music. What is different with this app is that you don’t star experiences. You stamp them. Don’t stamp too much however, you only get 100 stamps to start out with but you can earn more by being active. You can also follow friend that are stamping to get recommendations. You can share your stamps as well on Twitter and Facebook. If that isn’t enough you can put your stamps on your to do list and if you don’t want to waist a stamp you can show your approval by liking it.
The more you stamp the more the app will know what you like. The company is planning to add a ads based on your interest for places, books, music and movies. So you can learn more about your community and new places to check out based on your interests.
This is a great little app for those who don’t want to spend time finding that perfect restaurant to eat out at or that unique vintage shop, especially if you are in a new area.
The only downside to Stamped is that it is only available on the iPhone. Hopefully they will introduce it on Android powered phones in the future.
